As a lesbian, Ash believes that everyone has some type of a closet. She thinks that empathy and openness can help us understand others with different stories and perspectives. Ash has appreciated watching her own kids and youth of today accept and explore gender fluidity throughout the last decade, making the world a more inclusive space. Ash's 2013 Ted Talk has garnered more than 2-million views. The talk inspired her 2020 book, "Step Up: How To Live With Courage and Become An Everyday Leader."
